Important Septic System Do’s

Do keep records concerning your septic systems maintenance activities.
Do check with your local health department before using chemicals, additives or treatments.
Do keep a pencil sketch of the location of your tank and possibly mark tank lid with a bird bath, rock or marker for your reference.
Do check with the health department before installing a garbage disposal to ensure your septic system can accommodate the additional waste.
Do conserve water to avoid overloading the septic system by avoiding long showers. Use washing machines, dish washers and other water devices sparingly. Be sure to repair all leaking faucets, toilets and use high-efficiency fixtures.
Do plant only grass over and near your septic system. Roots from nearby trees or shrubs will eventually cause a problem with your system.
